Marguerite “Mag” F. Green, 96, of Forreston, IL passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Parkview Nursing Home in Freeport.
Mag was born on April 17, 1927 in Forreston the daughter of Henry and Luella (VanRaden) Kampen. She attended three years at Forreston Grade School, five years at Cedar Bluff Country School and finished at Forreston High School graduating in 1945. Mag then attended Brown's Business College in Freeport. After school she married Paul Simler on May 23, 1947. He preceded her in death on June 8, 1987. Mag married William Green on January 1, 1990. He preceded her in death also. She was the first lady bus driver and first lady rural mail carrier in Forreston. Mag was a lifelong member of Forreston Reformed Church, a member of Young People’s Club and a Sunday School Teacher at her church. She enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, crocheting and volunteering. Mag’s pie received blue ribbons at Old Settlers Days in Lanark.
Mag is survived by her two sons, Douglas Simler of Machesney Park, Derf (Andrea) Simler of Kankakee; one daughter, Holly Jacobs of Rockford, dear friend Jay Jacobs of Lanark; five grandchildren, Dan Bennett, Chris Bennett, Justin (Theresa) Jacobs, Josh Jacobs, Abigail Jacobs; four great-grandchildren, Kennedy Jacobs, Kyle, Dain and Hannah Bennett; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Donald; three sisters, Lillian, Burness, Phyllis and one daughter- in- law, Barb Simler.
Visitation will be 10:00am until time of Funeral Service at 11:00am on Friday, May 26, 2023 at Forreston Reformed Church with Reverend Doctor Lyle Zumdahl, officiating. Burial will follow at White Oak Cemetery in Forreston, IL.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Forreston Reformed Church or Rockford Rescue Mission.
