Marguerite “Mag” McKee, 91, of Freeport, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 28th, 2024 at St Anthony’s Medical Center. She was born in Shullsburg,WI on October 1st, 1932 to John & Carrie (Krug) Herbst. On April 16, 1955, she married Marvin “Bud” McKee in Shullsburg WI.
Mag was a dedicated wife, mother, grandma, great grandma, and great great grandma. She was also a favorite aunt to 52 nieces and nephews. Mag loved the St Louis Cardinals and made many trips to St Louis to watch her team play, many of which included taking her grandchildren along. She was an active member of St Thomas Catholic Church, as her faith was very important to her. Mag was also a member of the Eagle’s Club and Moose Club in Freeport.
Mag and Marvin built a life in Freeport IL, where they raised their 4 children. Mag worked at Honeywell for many years, was many people’s Avon lady, and helped her husband run Freeport Septic Service for over 20 years.
She is survived by sons, Larry (Lori) McKee of Eufaula, AL and Lindsay McKee of Freeport IL; grandchildren Tara Farwell, Annie (Brian) Peight, Thomas (Sadie) Farwell, Stacy (Corey) Gazouski, Danielle (Johnnie McCoy) McKee, and Dustin McKee; great grandchildren, Amira Sellers, Amarion Sellers, Tyson Farwell, Aiden McCoy, Avery Peight, Quinn Peight, and Skylnn Quintero; great great granddaughter Cyra Baker; and special family members Art & Myrna Bird.
She is preceded in death by her husband Marvin (2000); her son Terry (2015); her daughter Laurie (2024); her parents; and her 10 siblings.
A rosary service will be held at 4:00 PM with a visitation to follow until 7:00 P.M. Thursday October 3, 2024 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport, IL. Service will be held Friday, October 4, 2024 at 10:30am at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Freeport, IL. Fr. Peter Snieg will officiate. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memoiral Gardens.
