Marguerite M. Cregan

Marguerite M. Cregan passed away at her home at Liberty Village on May 1, 2016 at the age of 101. She was born August 8, 1914 in Monticello, WI, the daughter of Ed "E.R." and Chloe (Bentley) Stauffacher. She moved to Harlem Center, Freeport in 1915, where she attended Lincoln School and graduated from Freeport High with the class of 1933. Marguerite and George (Jim) Cregan were married on Dec 19, 1933, and shared a wonderful 62 year marriage. They lived in Dixon, IL; Polo, IL; Joliet, IL; Lockport, IL; Portland, OR; San Diego, CA; and St. Louis, MO before moving back to Freeport for retirement years. While living in each of these cities, Marguerite volunteered her time to many causes. In Freeport, she was a long time member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo with friends. She was preceded in death by parents, Ed "E.R." and Chloe Stauffacher, husband, George (Jim) Cregan, daughters Mary Margaret Cregan, Sally Korst, Nancy Berst; sons-in-law Eugene Korst and Robert Berst; niece Corrine Goldhagen; and nephew Robert Cregan. She is survived by six grandchildren, Jeffrey (Joy) Korst, Stephen (Julie) Korst, Michael (Laura) Korst, Mary Margaret Korst, Stephanie Berst, Guy Berst; six great-grandchildren, Rhianna Korst, Natalie Korst, Mitchell Korst, Chloe Korst, Christopher Korst and Cregan Berst; niece, Cheerie Cregan; cousin Jack Bentley, and dear friend, Marie Kerchner. A funeral mass will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday May 7, 2016 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Father Ken Anderson officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to FHN Hospice would be appreciated.
