Margaret Verlene Schoonhoven

Margaret Verlene Schoonhoven, 85, of Freeport, died Friday June 27, 2014 at Presence St. Joseph Center in Freeport. She was born January 2, 1929 in Stephenson County, IL, the daughter of Charles and Vera (Messimore) Brubaker. She married Robert Schoonhoven on July 31, 1948 in Baileyville, IL; he died on July 1, 2007. She worked at Stephenson Nursing Center for 20 years retiring as a secretary. Margaret is survived by her son Richard (Wendy) Schoonhoven of Prairie View, IL; her daughter Twyla (Bruce) Haugh of Freeport, IL; three granddaughters Kristina (Seth) Jones, Mary (Timothy) Dempski, and Marcia (Karver McPeek) Haugh ; and six great-grandchildren Destiny Haugh, Joshua Jones, Nathiel Jones, Lucas Jones, Kamden McPeek, and Ella Jones; and her good friend of many years Marilyn Gitz. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and one sister. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday July 2, 2014 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Tuesday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Burial will be at Cranes Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established in her memory.
