M. Margaret "Peg" Fogel

M. Margaret "Peg" Fogel, 97, of Freeport died Wednesday April 11, 2018 in at F.H.N Memorial Hospital. She was born October 10, 1920 in Shannon, IL the daughter of Charles H. and Annie Gertrude (Bevan) Rodermel. On November 8, 1941 she married Homer A. Fogel Jr. in New London, MO. Homer died December 4, 2006. Peg was a 1938 graduate of Shannon High School; she attended St. Francis School of Nursing from 1939-1941; and graduated from Highland Community College in 1977. Peg worked as a nurse where she was employed at Stephenson Nursing Center, St. Francis School for Exceptional Children, and also did private nursing. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, and volunteered for school functions. In the 80's and 90's she served as an election judge. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and a charter member of Presence St. Joseph Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening and growing wild flowers, doing family genealogy, all types of music, sewing, and was an excellent cook. Peg is survived by her four daughters Kathleen (Eugene) Rudy, Nanette (Dr. Earl) Gubbins, Linda (Lynn) Zumdahl and Gail Hunter; two sisters Carol (Donn) Muckey of Anaheim, CA and Roberta Livingston of Freeport; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, Lewis, Robert, Ken and Donald Rodermel; two sisters, Dorothea Staats and Charlotte Flickinger; daughter; Maureen Christen; and grandson, Timothy Wilson. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday April 20, 2018 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Rev. Kenneth Anderson officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. A memorial has been established for St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
