M. Jeanette "Jan" Sullivan

M. Jeanette 'Jan' Sullivan, 92, of Freeport, died Tuesday surrounded by family at Manor Court of Freeport. Jan was born on April 22, 1921 in Pleasant Valley (near Stockton) Illinois, the daughter of Henry J. and Loretta (Carroll) Donahue. Jan graduated from Aquin Central Catholic High School in 1938. On June 21, 1947, Jan married Richard J. Sullivan in Chicago. He passed away on April 17, 2006. Jan worked as a secretary for W.T. Rawleigh from 1938-1942. She then served as a Chief Yeoman in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946. From 1964-1970 she worked as a secretary for Mr. McNess at the Furst-McNess Company. From 1970-1984 she was a secretary for the Curriculum Director, School District 145. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Ladies Golf Association at Park Hills Golf Course, a member of the St. Thomas Ladies Guild, and active in many other church affairs. Jan did volunteer work for Freeport Memorial Hospital and School District 145. Surviving are son, William Patrick (Mary)Sullivan of South Beloit; daughters, Kathleen Marie (Dana) Buck of Rockford, Loretta Ann (Michael) Polhill of Freeport, and Margaret Mary (David) Gittler of Elon, N.C.; her sister Lorna (John) Marsh of Freeport; two brothers, Robert P. (Barbara) Donahue of Freeport, and Brian J. (Mary) Donahue of Bartlett; three sister-in-laws Mary Donahue of Rockford, Nancy Donahue of Roscoe, and Darlene Donahue of Chicago, IL; six grandchildren, Kathleen (Peter) Candela, Dr. Carrie (Matthew) Marinaro, John (Theresa) Polhill, Annie (Brandon) Coble, Emily Gittler and Daniel Polhill. Also surviving are 7 great-grandchildren, Lauren, Ben, Gianna, Sam, Emma, Caroline, and Olive. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers, Hank, Richard, Patrick, Paul, and James; and son-in-law Stuart J. Matts. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2013 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Msgr. P. William McDonnell officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at St. Thomas. A memorial has been established in her memory for St. Thomas Aquinas Church. . Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
