Lyle E. Tempel, 73, of The Villages, Florida, and Winnebago, Illinois, died after a short battle with cancer on Monday, April 16, 2018. He was born on November 6, 1944 in Freeport, Illinois. He was the son of Orville and Beryl (Griffin) Tempel. He graduated from Forreston High School in 1962. He attended Northern Illinois University where he also played basketball. He married Eileen Buttel on September 8, 1967 in German Valley. Lyle was a farmer in Northern Illinois for many years and later owned Tip Top Delivery. Lyle retired in the The Villages, Florida where he had a home. He enjoyed playing water volleyball, pickle ball, and other activities in the warm weather and sunshine. Lyle was a former member of the Forreston Lions Club and the Forreston United Methodist Church. Lyle was the proud parent of two daughters, Catherine (Kurt) Hasty of Paducah, KY., and Anne (Bill) Towers of Naples, FL.; He is survived by his wife, Eileen Tempel; two daughters, and their husbands, grandchildren, Allison and Megan Hasty of Paducah, KY and Jacob Towers of Naples, FL.; brothers-in-laws, Donald Buttel and Richard Buttel; sisters-in-laws, Rose Marie Thompson, Kathryn (Roger) Pitcel and Karen (Mel) Swinford. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, John Janssen; mother and father-in-law, Henry and Rosetta Buttel; and sister-in-law, Rebecca Buttel. Memorial services will be 12:00 Saturday May 26, 2018 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at Burke Tubbs. Following the service the family has invited everyone to the Freeport Eagles Club for a time of lunch and fellowship.
