Lyla J. Becke

Lyla J. Becke, 84, of Freeport, died Sunday August 27, 2017 at Stephenson Nursing Center. Lyla was born March 25, 1933 in Freeport, the daughter of LeRoy J. and Frances M. (Owen) Smith. She married Leonard L. Becke January 10, 1954 in Freeport. Mr. Becke died February 25, 1994. Lyla worked at Crum and Forster for many years. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, she loved to cook and spend time with all of her family. Lyla also volunteered at Freeport Manor. Surviving are her son, Kevin Becke of Freeport; two brothers, Lloyd G. Smith of Freeport and LeRoy (Shirley) Smith of Mt. View, CA.; sister, Marlene Swank of Freeport; son-in-law, Dale (Sue) Schweitzer; and one granddaughter, Jennica J. Schweitzer-Braun. Lyla was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Becke; daughter, Cynthia Schweitzer on March 9, 1993; and sister, Rose Spencer. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday August 31, 2017 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at Burke Tubbs. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
