Lucean "Honey" P. Brumfield

July 7, 1930 — January 29, 2018

In the early morning of January 29, 2018, Lucean "Honey" McNair-Brumfield was called home to be with our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. She was born July 7, 1930 in Freeport, Illinois to the late Joseph C. McNair and Lucean Gossett-McNair. Honey was a 1948 graduate of Freeport High School. She loved to dance and was a very outgoing person. Lucean was always a first class dresser and adventurous in her young years. After marrying John L. Brumfield, her best friend, as well as the love of her life on August 7, 1949, they lived in Chicago. A few years later they settled in Gary, Indiana, where their first home was purchased and stayed in that home for 61 years. Lucean retired from JC Penny's after 30 years of service. She enjoyed working in the public. Mrs. B was vice-precinct committee woman for many years in G-3-18; she then moved up to precinct committee woman, and then Chairperson of Lake County Board of Elections in Gary. Lucean was a devout Christian all of her life. As a young child she attended 2nd Baptism Church in Freeport. While in Chicago she attended true Vine Baptism Church under Rev. Paxton. Once in Gary she joined St. Phillips Lutheran Church and was a member for many years. Honey then moved on to Beth-Eden MB Church in Gary under Pastor Cecil M. Fuller. Mrs. B had several assignments there and a few of them were President of the Usher Board and President and NEW ERA District President. Honey leaves to cherish her fond memories with her son, Dennis (Patricia) of Freeport; Ralland (Annett) of Racine, WI., and Gregory ('TC") of Freeport; sisters, Katherine (Carl) of Columbus, OH., Ella Edison of Freeport, and Marlene Kuykendall of Freeport; brothers, Louis McNair of Racine, WI., and John McNair of Racine, WI; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; godchildren, Jackie Rucker, Karen Chandler, and Jeffrey Pace all of Harrisburg, PA., and Phillip Adams of Gary, IN. Special thanks to Pastor Everlena Thurmond, Sister Eva Craig, FHN Hospice as well as Presence St. Joseph Center. Honey was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Brumfield; parents, Joseph and Lucean (Gossett) McNair; and sister, Evelyn Bruce. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday February 3, 2018 at Faith Center (203 West Pleasant Street). Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in City Cemetery. Please sign Honey's guestbook at www.burketubs.com
