Lorreine Anita (Rohde) Sopcic, 96 of Freeport IL passed away on December 13, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 26, 1927 in Freeport IL to the late Steven & Marguerite (Krogull) Rohde. Lorreine married William Daniel Sopcic on May 1, 1954 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Freeport, IL and moved to Chicago for the next 5 years until sadly she was widowed on October 9, 1959. After Bill’s death, Lorreine and her two children, 4-year-old Kathy, and 3-year-old Mark (while also 7 months pregnant with twins, Mike & Dave) relocated back to Freeport to be closer to her family, where she fulfilled the role of both father and mother. Lorreine was blessed to live in her own home until moving to Ascension Living Center in October of 2020, where she lived until she passed.
She was both a devoted mother and a strong role model. Lorreine's love and dedication to her family knew no bounds. She made summer vacations a priority for her children, driving them and herself to Daytona Beach year after year.
Lorreine was a woman of great faith, attending weekly Mass with her children, and sending them through Freeport Catholic Schools. A parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church for decades, she was more recently a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church.
Lorreine received her education at St. Joseph's Elementary School and Aquin High School. She further pursued independent studies at Highland Community College. After her education, Lorreine embarked on a fulfilling career. She worked as a medical clinic receptionist and later as the beloved "Lunch Lady" at St. Joseph's Elementary School. Lorreine worked as a Micro Switch assembly factory worker before retiring. She volunteered at Freeport Health Network for several years, but her favorite job during retirement was serving as a part-time court bailiff for Stephenson County.
Lorreine loved to travel. She explored various destinations throughout the continental US and abroad. Hawaii held a special place in her heart, and she visited the beautiful islands 14 times with her family and friends. Lorreine also enjoyed watching TV game shows and old western movies. She loved solving crossword puzzles, and was an avid Green Bay Packer and Chicago Cub fan. Maintaining an active lifestyle, she walked daily on the treadmill well into her early 90s.
She is survived by her children Kathy Kirchberg of Floresville, TX, Mark (Karen) Sopcic, Mike (Betty) Sopcic, all of Freeport, IL, and David Sopcic of Milwaukee, WI. She was a proud grandmother to Kimberly Kirchberg, Karen (Chancy) Thilmony, Matthew (Jackie) Sopcic, Lauren (Dave) Rigby, Neal (Rachael) Sopcic, Karly (Martin) O'Leary, Paige Sopcic, and Dean (fiancé Stacey Xiong) Sopcic. Lorreine was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Grey and Eli Rigby, Madelyn and Monroe Sopcic, and Alice Thilmony.
Preceding her in death were her husband, William Daniel Sopcic, son-in-law, Donald Kirchberg, and siblings, Jeanette Kesselring, Richard Rohde, and James Rohde.
Lorreine was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many through her unwavering love, faith, and dedication to her family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
