Lorna G. Smith, 86, of Freeport, died Sunday, December 11, 2016 in her home. Lorna was born July 29, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Edward and Helen (Littwinski) Luebbing. Lorna married Lloyd G. Smith on January 8, 1949 in Freeport. She was a 1948 graduate of Freeport High School. Lorna attended University of Illinois and finished her degree at Highland Community College at the age of 65. Alongside her husband Lloyd, they owned and operated Lloyd G. Smith Carpets for 65 years. Lorna was a former member of First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed music and art. Surviving are husband, Lloyd G. Smith of Freeport; three daughters, Debra (Rich Nickel) Cain of Freeport, Julie (Michael Gonzales) Smith of Golden, Colorado, and Dena (Robert) Burke; two granddaughters, Mandi Lynn Cain and Claire Anne Burke; three great-grandchildren, Alec Smith, Elijah Cozmo Cain, and Violet Rose Burke; sister-in-laws, Marlene Swank and Lyla Becke; Also surviving is longtime friend, Judy McLinn. Lorna was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Helen Littwinski; son, Steven E. Smith; grandson, Justin H. Smith; and sister-in-law, Rose Spencer. Funeral services will be 6:00 P.M. Thursday December 15, 2016 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Rev. William Blomberg will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service Thursday at Burke Tubbs.
