Lois LaVonne Hagemann, 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, at her daughter's home near German Valley of complications from Parkinson's disease. We rest in the knowledge that she is now in the arms of Jesus and reunited with her loving husband, Ray. Lois was born at her family farm on Nov. 11, 1932, the only child of Bernice (Ruthe) and Clarence Borchers. Growing up near German Valley she attended a one room school. She often spoke of her childhood farming chores including caring for cows and chickens, push mowing the lawn, and driving tractor. She loved reading books, singing, playing piano, and drawing. Lois attended high school at the Pleasant Prairie Academy in German Valley where she was salutatorian of her 1950 class. She especially loved and grew close to her classmates and enjoyed cheerleading, choir, class plays, and playing basketball. She married Ray Hagemann on June 5, 1952 and they started farming Ray's family farm. Over the years they were blessed with five daughters. They continued living on the farm near Baileyville until 2008. Over the years they raised several crops, dairy, poultry, and sheep. Besides all the farm work Lois enjoyed gardening, sewing, flowers, mowing lawn, and reading. She especially enjoyed the Christian gospel groups The Crusaders and The Gaithers. She was a great cook and made wonderful pies which she often shared with others. Her greatest joys included decorating her home and hosting her family for holiday meals, packing Christmas boxes for Samaritan's Purse, traveling to bed and breakfast inns, babysitting her grandchildren and helping her children whenever needed. Lois was preceded in death by her husband Ray in 2013. Also preceding her in death were her parents, infant grandson Adam Michael Hall, and infant great-granddaughter Hanna Rae Gunderson. Surviving are her five daughters; Linda (Lyle) DeVries, Forreston, Melody (Darwin) Hall, Steward, Jan (Bill Mead) Hagemann, Freeport, Nancy (Mick Badgett) Egan, Janesville, and Penny Frank-Hagemann, Stockton. Also 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
