Llewelyn G. "Lee" Kenneke, 88, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017, after a brief illness. Born at home, on April 14, 1928 in Kohler, Wisconsin, Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Wilma Kenneke, his brother Delmar Kenneke, an infant sister, Darlene Kenneke, and infant grandson, Andrew Lee Lehman He attended a one-room school house in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin for 8 years, and was a 1946 graduate of Kiel (WI) High School. In addition to farming in the Kiel area, he attended training at the University of Wisconsin, and worked as an artificial inseminator for over twenty years in Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. He later retired from the Chrysler Corporation Assembly Plant in Belvedere. Lee was an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America, for over 40 years. He was recognized with numerous awards, including the Bridge Builder, Award of Merit and prestigious Silver Beaver Award. An avid cyclist, he was a member of the Freeport Bike Club. In addition to local rides, he biked across Iowa, Wisconsin and Michigan. His cycling included the Senior Olympics program where he was an award-winning competitor at both State and National levels. He enjoyed spending time canoeing, camping, telling jokes, and visiting with friends and neighbors. Above all, Lee strived and succeeded in being a good provider and caregiver for his family. He dearly loved his wife Gloria, children, and extended family. He is survived by his wife of over 66 years, Gloria Kenneke, six children; Cynthia (Thomas) Erb, Thomas (Chris) Kenneke, Debra (Mike) Page, Robert Kenneke D.C., David (Cindy) Kenneke, Steven (Amy) Kenneke, a sister Louann (Phil) Schils, eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the staff at Freeport Health Network for the loving and professional care they showed him and his family during his illness. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday March 27, 2017 at Bethany United Church of Christ, with Pastor Ted Michalsen officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7:00 P.M. Sunday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Entombment will be in Oakland Mausoleum. A memorial has been established for The Boy Scouts of America.
