Lizzie Lee Winston

August 6, 1931 — November 2, 2017

Remembering Your Life On August 6, 1931, Pate and Virginia Allen gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Lizzie Allen, in Jonestown, MS. Lizzie was one of 12 children born to this union. One day as Ms. Lizzie was walking down the street she crossed paths with a young man named, Julius Winston and she caught his eye. So, on January 13, 1946, Julius and Lizzie became one and to this union 12 children were born. In 1969, Julius and Lizzie left Jonestown, MS and moved to Freeport where they started another chapter in their lives. Lizzie was employed in her younger years but was a devoted wife and mother and took this job very seriously. She was family oriented, she faithfully cared for her husband, children and others whoever was there at that particular time or day. She never turned anyone away, she had such a giving spirit, she laid a foundation for her family to follow. She showed us how real love was by actions and not just in words alone. Julius and Lizzie were blessed to enjoy 71 years of marriage after just taking a walk one day. On November 2, 2017, Lizzie received her angel wings and leaves behind her faithful and loving husband to cherish her memory, Julius Winston; two sons: Tommie Winston, Cedric (Mary) Winston; four daughters: Catherine (Sampson) Pegee, Emma (Roosevelt) Baker, Lisa (William) Winston, Margaret (John) Winston; two brothers: Andrew Allen, Lorenzo (Constance) Allen; one sister: Erma Jean (Joe) Williams, 44 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family would like to give a very warm thanks to a very special friend/daughter, Brennetta Hall who was there until Lizzie earned her wings. Lizzie was preceded in death by her parents: Pate & Virginia Allen; three brothers: Willie (Linda) Allen, Sunny Allen, Columbus (Jessie) Allen; five sister: Celeste Allen, Elizabeth (Willie) Cooper, Mary Eatta Allen, Clara Allen, Lizzie Allen; three sons: Willie Leonard, John Winston, Fedil Winston; one daughter: Virginia Winston. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday November 11, 2017 at Philippians Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Nathan Allison will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at Philippians Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery.
