Linda Marie Goley

April 27, 1948 — April 17, 2025

Freeport

Linda Marie Goley, age 76 of Freeport, Illinois went to her eternal home on Thursday, April 17, 2025 after an unexpected illness, surrounded by love and held in the promises of her faith. Her life was a beautiful reflection of grace, kindness, and an unwavering trust in Jesus: faith that remained her foundation until the very end. Her parting words to those around her were a simple, powerful reminder: “Keep the faith” and build a relationship with Jesus.

Born on April 27, 1948 in Plain, Wisconsin to Bill and Elvy Weiss, Mom grew up in a loving home where family, laughter, and faith were at the heart of daily life. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Goley; brother, Gary Weiss; brother-in-law, John Hill; step-son, John M Goley; and step-grandson Andrew Goley.

She was a devoted mother to Chris Goley and Sarah (Ryan) Meador, and a loving stepmother to Carol Goley, Jim Goley, Donald Goley, and the late John M. Goley. Her grandchildren - Kendrick, Aubrey, and Colton Meador - were the light of her life. She also deeply cherished her step-grandchildren: Meghan (Slick) Clark, Tim Wittenauer, Ann (Cameron) Goley-Zies, John Goley Jr., April (Goley) Breeden along with many great-grandchildren. She is survived by her siblings Pat (Steve) Bowdish, LaVonne (Andy) Anderson, Bill (Connie) Weiss, Dorothy Hill, Terry (Sheila) Weiss, sister-in-law Rhonda Weiss, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends, and former students.

A proud graduate of UW-Platteville, Mom devoted 34 years to teaching at Dakota Elementary School where she was known for her strength and deep care for every child. She held a special place in her heart for the countless lives she touched during those many years in the classroom. After retiring, she remained closely connected to many of her former colleagues through the “Moldy Oldies,” a cherished group of retired teachers who gathered regularly to share laughter, stories, and friendship.

Mom also had a love for travel and delighted in discovering new places. Whether she was exploring the world with friends, enjoying time at Delavan, Canada, or Florida, or simply relaxing in the sun, she found joy in the beauty of the world around her and the company of those she loved.

An active member of the League of Women Voters and the Illinois Retired Teachers Association, she believed deeply in the importance of civic responsibility. She encouraged others to always continue learning, use their voice, vote, and participate in the community.

Mom lived a life of quiet strength and faith-filled purpose. She touched countless lives with her thoughtfulness and generosity, and her legacy will continue through the hearts of all who loved her. In honor of her life, we invite you to carry forward her spirit by showing kindness, living with grace, and always keeping the faith.

“Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
