Lester J. Niemann

Lester J. Niemann, 75, of Freeport, IL passed away at home surrounded by his family on October 4, 2022 after a brief illness. Les was born on October 28, 1946 to Tony and Marie Niemann from Apple River, IL. After graduation from Warren High School in 1964, he worked at Micro Switch until being drafted by the U.S. Army in 1966 where he served until 1968. After an honorable discharge from the Army, Les went back to Micro Switch where he was a supervisor and met Carol Robieson, who became his wife in 1969. Next month they would have celebrated 53 years of marriage. Les went on to work for the Kelly Springfield Tire Company in 1969 and became a part time rural mail carrier for the Ridott and German Valley post offices in 1972. He retired from Kelly Springfield in 1991 and became a full-time rural mail with the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 2011 having a career with the postal service for 39 years. Les loved working with small engines and could fix any lawn mower, snowblower, tractor or car before modern technology with computer systems. He had a collection of antique cars, attended car shows and tractor pulls. He loved working in the garage, mowing grass, or snow blowing. He is preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Marie Niemann, and a brother, Larry Niemann. He is survived by his wife, Carol Niemann, and two daughters, Karla Niemann of Freeport, IL and Tamara Niemann of Southington, CT. Visitation will be held Monday, October 10, 2022 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport, IL. Visitation will also take place on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A luncheon will follow at the Eagles Club, 1200 W. Galena, Freeport, IL. A memorial fund has been established.
