Leroy W. Schroeder

LeRoy W. Schroeder, 91, of Freeport, died Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Presence St. Joseph Center. LeRoy was born on June 25, 1924 in Freeport the son of Clarence and Alma (Jahnke) Schroeder. LeRoy married Loretta Keppen on June 12, 1949, in Freeport at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He served in the Army Air Corps Military Police from February 1943 until January of 1946, spending 30 months in India. LeRoy worked for Micro Switch/Honeywell as a cost estimator before retiring in September 1986. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and playing cards. Surviving are his wife, Loretta Schroeder, of Freeport; daughter, Linda Schmidt of Stockton ;his special niece, Patricia (Matt) Leners of Round Lake, Illinois sister, Nancy Byron of California; four grandchildren, Jeff Schmidt, Cheli (Mike) Peotter, Joe (Ruth) Schmidt, and Doug Schmidt; nine great-grandchildren, Jarin, Cody, Andrew, Tyler, and Jacob Schmidt, Jaden and Harley Schmidt and Dylan and Lexi Potter; Also surviving are special family, Nathan, Amanda, and Brooklyn; and many nieces and nephews. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters; Jeanette, Dorothy, Lillian and a sister in infancy. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 17, 2015 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Freeport. Rev. Steven Radunzel will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established for Our Savior Lutheran Church.
