Leroy N. Thorn

LeRoy N. Thorn, 96, of Freeport, died Friday July 20, 2018 at Stephenson Nursing Center. He was born January 9, 1922 in Freeport to Oscar and Laura (Canfield) Thorn. On January 18, 1947 he married Helen M. Longamore in Durand, IL. For many years Helen and LeRoy worked on numerous farms in the area. LeRoy served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of Rock Grove Lutheran Church. LeRoy enjoyed traveling, fishing and playing cards. Surviving are his wife, Helen; son, Russell (Michael Magno) Thorn of Freeport; daughter, Linda (Michael Doubler) Jones of Freeport; sister-in-law, Evelyn (Solace) Thorn of Bradenton, FL; three grandchildren, Rene, Stephanie and Lori; and three great-grandchildren, Coty, Dalton and Christian. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Oscar; five sisters, Margaret, Loretta, Eileen, Bernice and Stella; and son-in-law, John Jones. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday July 27, 2018 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home with a visitation from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
