Leroy Allen Hayunga

Leroy Allen Hayunga, 89, of Baileyville, IL, passed away Wednesday April 16, 2025 at Manor Court in Freeport, IL. He was born January 24, 1936 in German Valley, IL, the son of Henry and Ethel (Mennega) Hayunga. Leroy was a 1954 graduate of the Pleasant Prairie Academy in German Valley, IL. He then attended the University of Wisconsin and graduated in 1958. After college Leroy served in the United States Army from 1958-1962. On September 14, 1958 he married Marilyn Beyer in Stockton, IL. Marilyn passed away on June 2, 1995. He was a member of Silver Creek Reformed Church growing up and again later when Community Reformed Church, Freeport, closed.

Sports were a passion of Leroy’s, especially baseball, basketball and football. Friday and Saturday nights he loved listening to local high school sports on the radio. Most important to Leroy was family though. He believed Sundays were meant to be spent with family and he always looked forward to being around his family.

He is survived by his four children Denise (Tom Mulder) Hayunga of Freeport, IL, Carol (Tom) Perrin of Freeport, IL, Kathy (Jim) Spoerlein of Lanark, IL, and Allen (Melissa) Hayunga of Freeport, IL; two siblings Phillip (Susie) Hayunga of Surprise, AZ and Phyllis Dirkson of Tuscon, AZ; and seven grandchildren Candi (Dan Carpenter) Seffrood of Colorado, Thomas Perrin of Freeport, IL, Rachel Perrin of Freeport, IL, Megan Hayunga of Chubbuck, ID, Sydney (fiancé Jeremiah Green) Hayunga of Freeport, IL, Brieann Spoerlein of Lanark, IL and Jonathan Spoerlein of Lanark, IL.

Preceding Leroy in death are his parents, wife, and brother Virgil.

Funeral services will be 11:30 A.M. Monday April 21, 2025 at Silver Creek Reformed Church in German Valley, IL, Pastor Nora Johnson officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at church. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport, IL. A memorial has been established in Leroy’s memory.
