Leona Grace Devries

Leona Grace DeVries, 91, of Forreston, died August 27, 2012 in her home. Leona was born on August 29, 1920 in Forreston, the daughter of John and Fannie (Ruter) DeWall. On August 29, 1938 Leona married Paul DeVries in Forreston. Mrs. DeVries was a member of the Forreston Reformed Church, was active in women's ministries, taught Sunday school for 37 years and played the piano. In addition to working with her husband on the family farm, she faithfully supported him in his community responsibilities. Leona attended Forreston schools, graduating in 1938. She served as an election judge in Lincoln Township for 23 years, visited shut-ins and nursing home residents. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, crocheting, reading, music, sports and traveling. She was devoted to her family, church and community. Surviving are two sons; Roger (Sandy) DeVries of Milledgeville and Derald (Nola) DeVries of Forreston. Six grandchildren; Gwen (Brian) Weidman of Dixon, Cheryl (Bob) Allen of Sterling, Mark (Lori) DeVries of Forreston, Jill DeVries of Forreston, Gregg (Kris) DeVries of Byron and Amy DeVries of Forreston, eighteen great grandchildren; Kody Grove, Nathan, Ryan, Reid Blackburn, Austin and Chandler Allen, Dane, Derek, and Haley DeVries, Angela(Thomas Alexander), Justin(Nickole Jones) and Erin Butler, Dakotah and Peyton Sorn, Grant and Lexi DeVries, Alyssa(Mike Peters) and Abby Cavazos. Six great-great grandchildren; Ashleigh, Ericka, Audrina, Ryleigh, Olivia, and Brantley, two sisters-in-law; Gladys Ludwig of Forreston and Lois Cheeseman of Shannon. Proceeding her in death were her husband, parents, and two infant sons; Keith and Jay. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, August 30, 2012 at Forreston Reformed Church with Pastor Timothy Fry officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 until 7:00 at Burke Tubbs, Forreston.
