Lawrence “Larry” Russell Rockey, 82, of Freeport, IL passed away Monday December 2, 2024 at home. He was born June 28, 1942 in Freeport, IL to Russell and Clarice (Stoll) Rockey. Larry grew up on a farm in Dakota, IL and graduated from Dakota High School. After graduating high school, Larry attended tool and die school and started his apprenticeship as a tool and die maker. On August 1, 1964 he married Judith (Halstead) at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Davis, IL. Larry and Judy lived briefly in Hereford, TX before returning to Freeport. Larry and Judy were lifelong members of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Freeport. Over several decades Larry owned multiple businesses in Freeport and Monroe, WI. He retired as a Realtor in Freeport. Larry loved spending time with his dogs, Toby, Otis, and Barney and following his children’s and grandchildren’s sports.
He is survived by his son Steve (Liz) Rockey of Pinehurst, TX; daughter-in-law Laura Rockey of Island Lake, IL; nephew Gary (Doris) Wales of Dakota, IL; and four grandchildren Madeline (Davis) Rockey-Jackson, Macy Rockey, Ryan Rockey, and Gavin Rockey.
Preceding Larry in death are his parents, wife, and sons Michael and Matthew.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Randy and Lisa for their care and support of Larry throughout the years.
A private memorial service will be held in the spring. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial has been established for Friends Forever in Freeport.
