Lawrence "Larry" Martin

Lawrence "Larry" Martin, 75, of Forreston, IL died Monday August 10, 2015 in his home. He was born August 15, 1939 in Winslow, IL, the son of Lawrence and Blanche (Vickers) Martin. He married Dorothy Paul October 19, 1958. Larry worked as a production supervisor at Newell for 16 years and then as a maintenance supervisor at the Sojourn House. He was a member of North Grove Evangelical Church in which he served as an elder. He was a handyman and enjoyed building projects. Family was a very important part of his life. Larry is survived by his wife Dorothy Martin of Forreston, IL; six sons Donavon (Melanie) Martin of Virginia beach, VA, Calvin Martin of Martintown, WI, Alden (Roxann) Martin of Murphysboro, IL, Jerome (Vicki Oppold) Martin of Freeport, IL, Douglas (Arline) Martin of Channahon, IL, and Rodney Martin of Freeport, Il; one daughter Angela (Kirk) Janicke of Forreston, IL; two brothers Charles (Gloria) martin of Rockford, IL and David (Linda) Martin of Maricopa, AZ; three sisters Beverly Sorn of Rockford, IL, Charlotte (June) Walters of Milton, WI, and Mary Lynn Koester of Milton, WI; 20 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son James. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Monday August 17, 2015 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport with Rev. Timothy Hotchkiss officiating. Visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. until the time of service. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial has been established in his memory.
