LaTayne graduated from Freeport High School where she was an active student and was both a cheerleader and athlete. She was, and is still, known for her speed along with a record in Track & Field, an area where she always excelled. LaTayne attended Missouri University on a track scholarship. She later transferred to Lincoln University in Missouri her sophomore year where she met and married Johnnie Simpson Sr. They later divorced but have two children from that marriage, Johnnie Simpson Jr., and Jessica Jenkins. LaTayne had an extensive career in insurance industry processing claims, managing teams, and working for over 20 years at Nationwide Insurance where she won many awards for sales prowess. LaTayne was a public speaker, business coach and author. Her book From Single Parent to Six Figures tells her inspiring story of triumph and the priceless life lessons she wanted to share with the world. LaTayne was known for her strong faith in God and was an active member of Faith UMC in Dickinson, TX where her beloved son Johnnie serves as Senior Pastor. She was also extremely active in the community, serving on boards and being a part of many organizations. LaTayne was a member of the NAACP, Star of the East No. 11, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Rho Omicron Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Out of all the things LaTayne accomplished, her children were her greatest pride and joy. LaTayne took great pride in being a grandmother to five beautiful grandchildren, in whose lives she was very active. LaTayne is preceded in death by her father Frank Bruce. She leaves behind her mother Corrine Bruce, sisters Gwenette Bruce, and Veronica Bruce, children Johnnie Simpson Jr. (Lataya Simpson), Jessica Jenkins (Ricjaune Jenkins), grandchildren Johnnie Simpson III, Elle Simpson, Layla Simpson, Thalia Jenkins, and Rishon Jenkins.
