Larry N. Stein, 74, of German Valley, died Thursday April 12, 2018 in his home surrounded by his wife and children. Larry was born February 1, 1944 in Freeport, the son of Nelson and Mae (Plock) Stein. He was a 1962 graduate of Forreston High School. He married Shirley Clark on December 3, 1966 in Durand. Larry was a member of the Army Reserves from 1964-1970. Larry was the owner/operator of Stein Brother Trucking for many years before retiring in 2006. He was a member of German Valley United Methodist Church, Freeport Eagles Club, charter member of the German Valley Lions Club, volunteer fireman in German Valley for 25 years, and MVP of German Valley in 2016. Larry enjoyed his winters in Florida, and playing euchre. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and of the #3 car, Dale Earnhardt. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Stein of German Valley; sons, Bill (John Stewart) Stein of St. Louis, MO.; daughters, Amy (Bob) Bollon of Orangeville and Christine (Jerome) Gentry of German Valley; sister, Darlene (Jon) Worley of Machesney Park; nine grandchildren, Dayton, Avery, Tori, Hannah, Isabella, Sarah, Caleb, Hannah and Kelsey; one great-grandchild, Elias; aunts, uncles, nieces, and other extended family; and his beloved cat Jack. Larry was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday April 16, 2018 at German Valley United Methodist Church. Rev. Don Plock will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. A memorial has been established in Larry's memory.
