Lawrence 'Larry' D. Gross, 83, of McAlester, Oklahoma, formerly of Freeport, died Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at the Jack Montgomery V.A. Medical Center in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Larry was born on April 25, 1929 in Buckeye Township, the son of Stanley and Laura Gross. Mr. Gross served in World War II for the U.S. Navy from 1946-1950 he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal. He was employed with the Illinois Central Railroad as a conductor for over 25 years. Lawrence married the late Betty Jane Sager who passed away on April 10, 1965. He then married Marlene Zimmerman. Lawrence is survived by five children, Randy (Kim) Gross, Ramona Gross Brown, Richard (Tracey) Gross, David (Barb) Gross, Roxanne (Jeff) Gross Hipschman; five step children, Joyce Liddle Wilson, Bruce, Sharon, Karen and John; 22 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and sister, Norma Kline. He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, stepson, Ronald Matthews; two sisters, and son, Ronald Gross. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday January 4, 2013 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Rev. Dennis Jarrard will officiate Visitation will be Thursday 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
