Kyle J. Griffin, 9, of Freeport, Illinois passed away on Saturday July 25, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Kyle was born on June 5, 2011 at FHN Memorial Hospital. The son of Kelly Griffin Thruman and Brian Nott. Kyle was known by his family and friends as a caring, loving, smart, and a witty little boy. He loved playing Fortnite on his Xbox. He enjoyed sharing random facts about dinosaurs and was planning to get a pet T-Rex when he arrived in Heaven and would name it Kelly. Kyle loved swimming and had plans to try out again for the FAST swim team. Kyle enjoyed family trips to the Wisconsin Dells and last year was able to play in the ocean during his trip to Cancun, Mexico. Kyle aspired to be an airline pilot and also hoped for a career as a singer. During one of his many procedures a nurse suggested he be a singing pilot to entertain his crew and passengers. Kyle loved going to school to be with friends. He attended Center Elementary School and was enrolled in the HAPP Program. His third grade teachers Jessi Larson and Michele Downing helped him and gave him so much support in this last year of life. Kyle was diagnosed on January 3, 2020 with T Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Our family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Michael Merry of Burchard Hills (FHN) who helped us along the way and with the decision to complete Kyle's treatment at Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. The Oncology Department was phenomenal with the care given to Kyle, directed by Dr. Jenna Rossoff and her fellow, Dr. Lindsey Tengerstrom. We are very grateful for the loving care Kyle was shown by Elizabeth, with OSF Hospice Care. Kyle is survived by his parents Kelly and Brian, of Freeport, Illinois, his sister Claire Thruman, and brothers Matthew Thruman and Tanner Nott. His pug "Pickles". His maternal grandmother Dianne Griffin, and paternal grandparents Gene and Linda Nott, all of Freeport, Illinois. Uncle Eric (Nancy) Nott of Crystal Lake; Aunt Susan Nott of Schaumburg, Illinois; his cousins Beatrice and Greta Nott of Crystal Lake, Illinois; paternal great grandmother May Grilliot; and many great Aunts and Uncles.Kyle had plans to one day marry his best friend Sophia Abate. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Jerry "Kokie" Griffin and many great grandparents. Funeral services will be Friday July 31, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Burke Tubbs, by invitation only due to COVID-19 restrictions, with Father Michael Bolger officiating. Shortly after Kyle's service, a link will be provided by Burke Tubbs to view his funeral service for those unable to attend. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Freeport Illinois. Visitation will be held from 3 PM to 7 PM on Thursday July 30, 2020 at Burke Tubbs Funeral, in Freeport, Illinois. A memorial has been established in lieu of flowers.
