Kurt K. Mills

Kurt K. Mills, 53, of Freeport, died Thursday, October 28, 2021, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 17, 1968, in Sterling, IL, the son of Kenneth and Shirley (Christiansen) Mills. Kurt married Patricia White September 8, 2001. Kurt served his community as a Police Officer for the Freeport Police Department from 1991 until 2018. From 2018 until present he moved on to work as an Evidence Officer for the Freeport Police Department. He was also a firearms instructor in his free time. Kurt served many roles for Dakota High School, including substitute teacher, golf coach, and bus driver. He was a member of Dakota/Rock Grove United Methodist Church, Dakota. Kurt was a Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Kurt is survived by his parents Kenneth and Shirley Mills of Morrison, IL; two sons, Zayne and Zavier Mills; daughter, Makenzie Mills all of Freeport, IL; and two sisters, Kimberly Martin of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Lori Lee of Prophetstown. Kurt was preceded in death by his grandparents, and sister, Kara Lee Mills. Funeral services will be 1:30 pm Saturday October 30, 2021, at Dakota/Rock Grove United Methodist Church. Pastor Leslie Stanford will officiate. Visitation 9:00 am until noon at Dakota High School. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for the Dakota Golf Team in Kurt's memory.
