Kevin T. Oppold

August 24, 1989 — September 11, 2022

Kevin Thomas Oppold, age 33, of Freeport, Illinois, died in Chandler, Arizona, on Sunday, September 11, 2022. He was born on August 24, 1989, in Rockford, Illinois, the son of William J. and Deborah (Moll) Oppold. He graduated with the Freeport High School Class of 2008 and attended Northern Illinois University. He was an owner/operator of TSR Concrete Coatings of Arizona. He previously worked with his Uncle Kirk at Moll Hog Farms, and also at Z Financial/Chicago with his Uncle Keith. He is survived by his loving parents, his big brother, Kyle, and his little sister, Rachel (Ryan) Williams; his grandmothers, Mary Lou (Holbert) Moll and Norma J. (Kosier) Oppold; his uncles and aunts, Kirk Moll (Freeport), Keith Moll (Grayslake), Lynn and Theresa Koch (Belmont, NC), Stuart and Gloria McDowell (Wichita, KS), Al and Patty Lambert (Orangeville), Jim and Mary Stites (Orangeville), Victoria Oppold, Wayne and Tina Oppold (all of Freeport), and Randy Kosier (Clearwater, FL). He also leaves behind his beloved dog-daughters, Cali Jo and Missy. He is predeceased by his grandfathers, Richard T. Moll and William A. Oppold; and his aunt, Bernice Moore. While at Freeport High, he was a member of the National Honor Society. He played linebacker and running back positions for the Mighty Pretzels, serving as co-captain of the team. He was in Showtime all four years as a drummer under the direction of Jeff Lehman, and loved being drummer/guitarist in the Freeport High School Jazz Band under the direction of Bill Petersen. He was in the Praise Band at First Baptist Church and involved in many youth activities. He played in several bands after high school, traveling across the country. Musician John Hartman was a mentor, and music was a true passion for Kevin. Besides music, he loved to bow hunt on his family's property, play golf, and take his girl-pups for long walks to let them run free. His dream was to someday be involved in a rescue operation for dogs - he felt getting a very best friend from a shelter or rescue was one of the greatest choices we have. He was a Dallas Cowboys fan and also loved attending sporting events with his friends. His ultimate dream was to one day become a gourmet chef; he was an excellent cook. Kevin truly had a big heart and fiercely loved his family. This time with them meant everything to him. He cared very deeply for his friends and wanted nothing but the best for them. He loved his work at TSR Concrete Coatings of Lena where he began his career as one of the first nine team members for Jeff Gear and Tyler Russell, and progressed into being a part- owner in the company. He found satisfaction in seeing a project transform from nothing into something beautiful, and took great pride in the process. One of his legacies will be his work ethic in everything he did; he always had the mantra that to do something well, give it your all. He did everything with gusto. Whether it was nutrition, exercise, music, or his work, he wanted to do it right. The visitation will be held Sunday, September 18, from 1 to 5 p.m., at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport, IL. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 19, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Freeport, officiated by Pastor Steve Rios, with his final resting place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport.
