Kenneth W. Perry, 89, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Manor Court of Freeport. Ken was born on April 7, 1927 in Chicago, IL. the son of Kenneth J. and Aletha (Siegmeier) Perry. Ken grew up in Kewanee, IL. He served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany during World War II from 1945-1947. Ken proudly worked for the US Postal Service in Freeport for 37 years. He was also employed by Piggly Wiggly and while he was retired worked part time at Golf USA. Ken always had a love for golf and even had a hole in one. His joy in being on the course playing or looking for golf balls was contagious, and he taught many friends and family how to play. That legacy will continue. You could count on him supporting his grandkids at sporting events. His favorite date nights with his only granddaughter was watching Showtime at Freeport High School and listening to The Royal Scotts jazz performances at Highland Community College. He will be remembered for being kind toward friends and strangers alike and sharing his time with his loving companion Bogey. Ken and Myrna Edler married on January 14, 1951, and had three sons. They enjoyed traveling to California and were happily married for 46 years. He is survived by sons Phillip of Springfield, and Kurt (Cindy) Perry of Freeport; one sister Shirley Hill of Oshkosh, WI; one niece Delores Sirca of San Leandro, CA; one daughter-in-law Jody Perry of Freeport; two grandchildren Marcia Lynn (Patrick) Kirk of Bloomington, MN., and Christopher (Megan) Perry of Rockford; and three great-grandchildren Elle Marie, Colin, and Kyle Kirk. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Myrna Marie, son Craig, and one brother, Bob Perry. Friends and relatives are invited or may call during the visitation 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Sunday April 17, 2016 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home, 504 N. Walnut Ave, Freeport. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday April 18, 2016 at Chapel of Peace in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Pastor Daren Dietmeier will officiate. Family is grateful for the loving care provided by Manor Court nursing staff at Liberty Village. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Ken's memory.
