Kenneth "Ken" W. Kundert

July 22, 1943 — April 5, 2021

Kenneth W. Kundert, 77, of Freeport, passed away, Monday, April 5, 2021 at FHN Memorial Hospital. Kenneth was born July 22, 1943 in Rockford, Illinois, the son of Howard and Marian (Peschang) Kundert. Ken was a 1962 graduate of Galena High School. He married Betty Hulscher in 1964. Ken worked for Kelly Springfield for 35 years. He proudly served his country in the US Navy for two years. He was called "Fraum, Papa, and Grandpa" by his loving grandchildren. He was so proud of Broc, Chad, and Kasey. Over the years he traveled to wrestling meets, football games, and violin concerts. He would not miss an event. When Ken became a great grandfather, his buttons popped. Family and friends were always his highlight and meant everything to him. Everywhere he went Ken had friends, on one family vacation at Disney many years ago, someone hollered, "Kenny Kundert" and Tim, said see, Dad everyone knows you. But most of all Ken was his family's highlight. Surviving is his son, Tim (Wendy) Kundert; daughter, Melissa (Jeff) Babcock both of Freeport; grandchildren, Broc (Brittany) Kundert, Chad (Becky) Kundert, and Kasey Crimmins; great-grandchildren, Harper and Hadley Kundert, and a great grandson due in May; brother, Richard Kundert; and sister, Betty Jane (Mary) Kundert. Also surviving is his dog, Lucy, that he loved so much. Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday April 9, 2021 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the St. Mary's. Fr. Robert Camacho will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
