Karl Schoonhoven

Karl C. Schoonhoven, 91, of Freeport, died Thursday November 28, 2013 at Freeport Rehab and Health Care Center. He was born on November 16, 1922 in Stephenson County, Il, the son of Henry and Grace (Stahl) Schoonhoven. He married Carolyn Virtue on November 12, 1949; she died on January 16, 2008. Karl was a construction worker and builder. He was a member of the 379 Airborne Bomb Group U.S. Army Air Force from 1943-1945, and Zion Church in Freeport. He was a life long Chicago Cubs fan, and enjoyed golfing and bowling. He was a pilot and a member of a model airplane club. Karl is survived by his daughter Sandra (Gary) Dotson of Freeport, Il; three grandchildren Dan (Nancy) Dotson of Muskego, WI, Sarah (Dennis) Dotson-Ritter of Freeport, IL, and James (Jeannie) Dotson of Bouthbay, ME; and four great-grandchildren Heather, Jennifer, Bethany, and Josiah. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers, and one sister. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday December 8, 2013 at Zion Church with Rev. Gardy Cronk officiating. There will be no visitation. Cremation rites have been accorded and burial of cremains will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens at a later date.
