Karen Ann Smith

Karen Ann Smith, 81, of Freeport, passed away, Saturday August 21, 2021, at The Atrium in Rockford. Karen was born October 28, 1939, in Freeport, the daughter of Russell and Elizabeth (Burkhart) Trunck. Karen married Fred A. Smith June 8, 1957, in St. Joseph Catholic Church. She worked as an LPN Nurse at Freeport Memorial Hospital. Karen was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. During Karen's lifetime she was an avid archer, gardener, and enjoyed hiking, canning, camping, and fishing. Spending time with her family was number one with her. Surviving is her husband, Fred Smith; son, Fred Smith Jr. both of Freeport; daughter, Stephanie (David) Freeman of Tucson, Arizona, Debbie Smith of Rockford, Donna (Terry) Mohn of Winnebago, and Susan Smith (Ryan Arnone) of Tucson, Arizona. Also surviving are six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Elizabeth Trunck; and brother, Don Trunck. A celebration of life will be held 12:00 p.m. Friday August 27, 2021 at Freeport Eagles Club. Instead of flowers, please make donations or checks payable to the Alzheimer's Association.
