Former Freeport resident R. Joyce Rosenstiel of Rockford, Illinois and Lauderdale By The Sea, Florida, died Wednesday in Rockford. She was born September 30, 1926 in Kearney, Nebraska the daughter of James and Emelia (Schuck) Harney. Joyce married Lee Rosenstiel on August 9, 1945 in Freeport. Mrs. Rosenstiel was a 1944 graduate of Winslow High School. She was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church. Lee and Joyce owned and operated Lee's Market in Freeport for over forty years. During her retirement, she enjoyed working and serving snowbirds in retail shops in Florida. Mrs. Rosenstiel is survived by her son, Richard Rosenstiel and his companion/special friend Sharon Miller of Loves Park, Illinois; her daughter in law, Natalie Rosenstiel of Belvidere, Illinois; and her beloved friend Bonnie Robertson of Argyle, Wisconsin. She also cherished six grandchildren; Michael Rosenstiel II, Patrick (Jennifer) Rosenstiel, Brandi (Geoff) Lasco, Tracey (Andrew) Gustafson, Jackie Rosenstiel-Graff and Richard (Becky) Rosenstiel; and 13 great-grandchildren; Ainsley, Caden, and Berit Rosenstiel; Hannah and Madalyn Lasco; James, Patrick, Natalie, and William Gustafson; Dillon and Allie Graff; and Daniel and Derek Rosenstiel. Also surviving are nephews and nieces; Jack (Zelda) Staas, Jim (Cynthia) Staas, and Patricia (Jim) McAnnelly; Dan Cover; David Schuster; Pam (Keith) Solace and Diane Rosenstiel. Mrs. Rosenstiel was preceded in death by her parents, her eldest son, Michael L. Rosenstiel on May 17, 2000, and dear friend Karin Tomasino; and three sisters; Clara Cover, Mary Schuster and Lucille Staas. The family is especially grateful to Heartland Hospice and Joyce's loving caregivers; Marcie, Evelyn, and Jobina, her nurse. A funeral Mass for Mrs. Rosenstiel will be Monday, October 19, at 10:30 A.M. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Freeport. Rev. Timothy Barr, Pastor, will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until time of service at Saint Joseph. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport.
