Joyce G. Wilhelms

Joyce G. Wilhelms, 86, of Shannon, died Saturday November 1, 2014 at Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Mt. Carroll, IL. She was born June 24, 1928 in Cherry Grove Township, IL, the daughter of Frank and Pearlene (Schneider) Zier. Joyce married Harold "Corky" Wilhelms August 18, 1956; he died on July 21, 1981. Joyce farmed with her husband Corky. She taught music at Shannon and Freeport Catholic Schools; Lanark United Methodist Church and Faith United Methodist Church. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Freeport, Rockford Organist Guild, Arc of Lee County in Dixon, IL, and Malcom Eaton Board, and 708 Stephenson County. Music was a big part of her life. Joyce is survived by her daughter Emily Kay Wilhelms of Dixon, IL; her brother Thornton (Bettye Lou) Zier of Lebanon, TN; two nephews Frank Zier and Roger (Karen) Wilhelms; two nieces Margaret (Tony) Nieman and Jean (Larry) Moore; four great-nephews; and two great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a nephew. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday November 8, 2014 at Faith United Methodist Church in Freeport with Rev. John Wesley Lee officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport.
