Joyce Ann (Featherston) Nelson

Joyce Ann (Featherston) Nelson, 77, of Freeport, passed away, Monday, January 27, 2025, at St. Joseph Provena Living Center. Joyce was born December 12, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Joyce (Gibbons) Featherston. Joyce married Richard Nelson in Rockford, in 1968.

Joyce tutored at Empire Elementary School, even after her great nieces and nephews graduated. She also donated acoustic panels, soccer uniforms, and a tent to Freeport High School.

Survived by her husband, Richard Nelson of Freeport; siblings, Diane (Norman) Arand of Clearwater, Florida, Michael (Connie) Featherston of Fairbault, Minnesota, and Connie (Gary) Lask of Rockford, Illinois, Tammy (Marty) McDonald of Loves Park, Illinois, and Teresa (Jim) DeSantis of Clarkston, Michigan. Also surviving are her many nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Charles Featherston; sister, Susan Anderson and Charlotte Featherston.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to St. Joseph Provena staff for the great care and compassion they showed Joyce.

Funeral services 11:00 am Saturday February 1, 2025, at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Visitation 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in Mrs. Nelson’s memory.
