On August 8th at 12:20 pm, Joseph Mastroianni loving husband, father and grandfather passed away at the age of 79. Joe was born on October 4, 1944, in Nocera Terinese, Catanzaro, Italy. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 8 and was raised by two uncles, Louis Mastroianni in Chicago, and Gene Mastroianni in Gary. Graduating from CVS High School in 1964, he later earned his degree in Electrical Engineering from South Dakota State University in 1968. Joe worked for Honeywell Micro Switch in Freeport Illinois for 34 years until his retirement in 2002.

On Dec. 21, 1968, Joe married Carolyn Stegeman in Freeport at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Joe was a long-time member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Freeport.

Always active with many hobbies, Joe enjoyed fishing, golf, winemaking, and woodworking. He delighted in the activities of his children and grandchildren, and also generously gave his support to many community and church based projects.

Joe is survived by his wife Carolyn and son Michael (Krista) Mastroianni, daughter Catherine (David) Follis and grandchildren Ellie and Joshua Follis.

The funeral and visitation will take place Wed. August 14 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 2700 W. Stephenson St, Freeport, IL. Visitation will be from 11:00-1:00 pm, with the funeral at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in his memory to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
