Joseph Detellem

Joseph DeTellem, 71, formerly of Freeport, died Sunday, November 10, 2013 in his home, in Rockford, of cancer. Joseph was born on August 9, 1942 in Beardstown, Illinois, the son of Joseph and Margurite (Kolfenbach) DeTellem. Joseph married Kay Polk on June 30, 2001 in Rockford. He started his working career at the Circle Lounge, was manager of Kentucky Fried Chicken in Freeport, he owned and operated a bakery in Morrison, B.J. Bar and Grill in Rock City and Ladies Workout Business in Rockford. He also was a cross country truck driver, and after retiring he was a driver for Park Avenue Limo in Rockford. Surviving are his wife, Kay DeTellem of Rockford; two sons, Joseph DeTellem and Keith DeTellem both of Escondido, CA.; two daughters, Patti Menefee of Escondido, CA. and Tana DeTellem of Freeport; brothers, John (Judy) DeTellem of DeWitt, IA.; sisters, Millie (Dean) Meier of Homosassa, FL. And Annie (Herman) Dew of Morristown, TN. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 11 step grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 8 step great-grandchildren, four step daughters, Peggy (Robert) Hooks of Rockford, Dorinda Williams(Terrence Woods) of Belvidere, Marsha Williams of Dallas, TX., and Ebony Starks of Rockford; Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jim DeTellem; and one grandson, Mike. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. also at Burke Tubbs. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Joseph's memory. Please sign the guestbook at www.burketubbs.com.
