Jonathan Riem

Jonathan “Big Jon” Riem, 72, of Freeport, IL passed away Sunday January 14, 2024 at home surrounded by his family. He was born May 17, 1951 in Freeport to Hank and Neva (Mitchell) Riem. On September 5, 1970 he married Rhonda Runkle in Apple River, IL. For 35 years Jon was employed at Honeywell in the plastics department as a setup man. After Honeywell, Jon had various jobs including a part-time job at Harbor Freight, where he made many friends. Jon’s hobbies included car shows, woodworking and working with and carving leather. Most of all, Jon enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Rhonda of Freeport; son Chris (Nancy) Riem of Dakota, IL; daughter Gini (Neil) Andrews of Harrison Township, MI; sister Trudi Sperlow of Titusville, FL; brother-in-law Wayne Raisbeck of Warren, IL; five grandchildren Tyler (Jenna) Riem, Cassidy Buss, Jessica Riem, Ashley Riem and Colin Buss; and five great-grandchildren Kamiya, Lyriq, TJ, Ezra and Soren.

Preceding Jon in death are his parents, mother and step-father-in-law Roselyn (Lyle) Lethlean, father-in-law Ray Runkle and sister-in-law Rita Raisbeck.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday January 27, 2024 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M until the time of service. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service. Inurnment will be at Oakland Cemetery and Mausoleum. A memorial has been established in his memory.
