John attended Chicago Public Schools and graduated from Lindblom High School. He was employed by A.T.&T for 42 years. Before and after retirement John was an avid amateur bowler, gardner and all-around home maintenance and fix-it man. He married Aldona Sabel in Chicago. They lived most of their married life in Chicago and Evergreen Park. John and Aldona moved to Freeport in 1995 to be near family. John and Aldona were member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Freeport. John is survived by one son Dr. William Sharelis (Sally Anne) and three grandchildren; Christopher (Anne) of Appleton, WI., David of Bartlett, IL. and Elizabeth Eiss (Eric) of Rockton, IL. Also surviving are six grandchildren; Michael Sharelis of Indianapolis, Ashley Sharelis of Appleton, Sabrina Sharelis and April Sharelis both of Elmwood Park, IL., Eva Eiss and Will Eiss both of Rockton and Chloe Ellen Sharelis great granddaughter of Appleton; one nephew survives, John Kavalunas (Gail) and his daughters Alicia Springer (Ryan) and Janelle and great niece Caroline Springer. John Was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Aldona, his parents, one sister Jeanette Kavalunas and one brother in law Albin Kavalunas. Visitation will from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 A.M. on Friday followed by a funeral Mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Church on Kiwanis Dr. at 11:00 a.m. Father Ken Anderson will officiate.
