John Samuel "Jack" Criddle

December 12, 1919 — June 13, 2021

John Samuel "Jack" Criddle, a true Freeport legend, went to be with Jesus, on Sunday, June 13, 2021. Jack, the son of Fred and Angenette (Shaughnessy) Criddle, was born December 12, 1919. Jack married the love of his life, Marjorie L. McCoy June 7, 1941. They originally met at Brown's Business College. Jack and Marjorie were blessed to just celebrate their 80th wedding anniversary. Jack graduated from Freeport High School in 1937 after leading his class in many areas, especially the Pretzel Basketball Court. Jack and Marge farmed for many years before Jack spent over 24 years managing the Stephenson County ASCS Office for the US Department of Agriculture. Upon his retirement, Jack drove school bus for School District 145 for many years. Jack always had a great loved for sports, in particular golf and baseball. Many Criddle family afternoons were spent on the family farm playing ballgames. Jack hit two holes in one, with his second one being at the age of 83. He was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ. Surviving is his wife, Marjorie Criddle of Freeport; children, Gary (Betty) Criddle of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mary Ann Akey (Gordon) of Poplar Grove, Randy (Terry) Criddle of Byron, and Dean (Janet) of Belleville; also surviving are 8 grand children and many great-grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by parents, brother, Lyle; and sister, Lois. Cremation rites have been accorded. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
