John S. "Jack" Hooker

John S "Jack" Hooker, 78, of Freeport, IL passed away Wednesday July 27, 2022 in Oshkosh, WI. doing what he loved, attending the Oshkosh Air Show with his airplane buddies. Jack was born May 10, 1944 in Rochester, NY to Thomas and Sarah Lee (Sullivan) Hooker. He grew up attending a one room schoolhouse Near Rochester, then to Youngstown,Ny.Jack was a 1962 graduate of Deveaux High School in Niagara Falls, NY and he also attended Park College in Parkville, MO from 1963-1965. In 1965 Jack left college and joined the United States Navy serving in the Vietnam War aboard the USS Horne. Upon returning home, Jack started Hooker Harness in Freeport, IL, owning and operating the business for over 45 years. Producing World Class custom Harnesses. On July 26, 1970 he married Susanne "Sue" E. Kuell in Silver Creek, NY. Sue passed away on April 22, 2010. Jack's memberships included Freeport Lincoln Douglas Kiwanis, Freeport Eagles Club, the Experimental Aircraft Association, Cessna 120/140 club, NRA , Federal Aviation Administration,and Canadian warbirds association, He was also an expert witness for airplane accidents. Jack was an avid scuba diver, sky diver and his real passion was piloting airplanes. Jack lived his life to the fullest and was a good friend to many. He loved to spend time with his family and in June took a trip to Connecticut with his family to learn about his ancestor The Rev. Thomas Hooker. (1586-1647 Founder of Connecticut.) He is survived by his daughter Martha (Paul Carter) Hooker of Freeport, IL; two brothers Tom (Nancy) Hooker of Williamson, NY and Andrews (Patricia) Hooker of Youngstown, NY; sister Lee (Billy Czryhura) Lamantia of Youngstown, NY; two grandchildren Chantel Carter and Aaliyah Carter; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Preceding Jack in death are his parents, wife and cousin Jean Hooker. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 A.M. CDT Saturday August 20, 2022 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home. The service will be live streamed at www.burketubbs.com and can be accessed under Jack's tribute wall 15 minutes before the service. A visitation will be held there from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service. There will also be a visitation Friday August 19, 2022 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Following the memorial service a light luncheon will be held at Beltline Caf in Freeport. A memorial has been established in Jack's memory. A block of hotel rooms has been reserved for guests traveling, at the Baymont Hotel in Freeport at 1060 N Riverside Dr, Freeport, IL 61032.
