John R. "Dick" Worthington

John Richard "Dick" Worthington, 92, passed away, on Monday, April 24, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.

Dick was born December 5, 1929, the son of Charles and Margaret (Goedel) Worthington. He married Nelda Tritch in Indianapolis on February 18, 1951. Mr. Worthington proudly served his country in the US Navy. Dick was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Freeport since 1957. He worked as an optician for 24 years for Dr. Kortemeier and Dr. Alberts. He was a member of the Freeport School Board for many years, serving as President in 1982. Dick was also very active in the Winneshiek Theater, as an actor and director. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking.

Survived by his loving wife, Nelda of Freeport; daughter, Susan (Rolene Rabinowitz) Worthington of Freeport and Karen (Don Wilk) Worthington of Lombard; and four step-grandchildren, Jared Weber, Callum Weber, Lydia Weber and Katia Weber.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents and two children, Scott Worthington, David Worthington; and sister, Martha Whisonant.

Memorial services will be 11:00 am Saturday April 29, 2023 at Grace Episcopal Church, Freeport. Fr. Brian Prall will officiate. Visitation 10:00 am until the time of service in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers memorials have been established for Rebuilding Stephenson County Together in Dick's memory.
