John G. Kohn, 88, of Freeport, died Wednesday, September, 26, at Mercy Hospital in Janesville, Wisconsin. John was born in Stephenson County, on March 22, 1924, the son of George and Sara (Frankeberger) Kohn. On December 20, 1947, John married JoAnn Kraft in Freeport. John served in World War II for the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946. He worked for Fairbank Morse, R & D Manufacturing and Newell before retiring in 1988. John was lifetime member of First Lutheran Church, member of the Cedarville American Legion; he was also a Little League Baseball Coach. John was well known for his Red Marble Games. As many activities that John enjoyed it was the ones with his family that always meant the most to him. Survivors include; wife; JoAnn Kohn of Freeport, three sons; Gordon Kohn, of DeKalb, David Kohn, of Freeport, and Randall (Cyndi) Kohn, of Rockford, brother; Keith (Betty) Kohn, of McConnell, sister; Elizabeth 'Betty' Bawinkel, of Freeport, sister-in-law; Donna Kohn, of Freeport, four grandchildren; Rachelle (Troy) Barclay, Ryan Kohn, Douglas (Valerie) Kohn and Grace Kohn. Also surviving are 7 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, sister; Ethlyn Busker and brother; Dwight Kohn. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday October 1, at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Keith Johnson officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. There will also be a visitation Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church.
