John E. Pollack, 82, of Freeport, died Thursday September 11, 2014 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport. He was born February 8, 1932 in Winnipeg, Canada, the son of Louis and Rosalie (Ondrus) Pollack. John worked for the Stephenson County Sherriff Office for 20 years. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Korean Conflict, as well as the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Freeport Elks Lodge 617 where he served two terms as the Exalted Ruler. He was a crime prevention officer, as well as Officer Friendly. John was also a professional magician. John is survived by his wife Lori of Freeport, IL; three sons Randy Pollack of Harvard, ID, Robert Pollack of Edmonton Alberta, Canada, and Richard (Kathryn) Pollack of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada; his daughter Stacey (Luke) Winter of Lena, IL; two brothers Lou Pollock of Canada, and Joe Pollack of White Horse Canada; eight grandchildren Grady and Bennett Winter, Dillon, Randilynn, Ben, Max, Tristan, and Mikhail Pollack. John was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Rudy. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded.
