John Albert Reining

John Albert Reining, 96, of Freeport, passed away, Friday, January 7, 2022. Mr. Reining was born February 24, 1925, in Akron, Ohio, the son of George and Bertha (Klabbatz) Reining. He graduated from Freeport High School and went almost directly to serve his country in the Army during World War II. John served in both the European and pacific Campaigns. Following his discharge in 1946, John started a lifelong career in Aviation. He ran Albertus Airport for over 30 years and almost any pilot in Northern Illinois, Southern Wisconsin area would have been licensed by John. He was also inducted into the Illinois Aviation Hall of Fame. John married Arneta Miner on March 22, 1960, in New Caney, Texas. John was very active in many area bands but most prominently the Shenanigans or when playing for a Shrine event, The Shrinanigans. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Mason 33rd Degree, Scottish Rite, Knights Templar, Freeport Elks Club, Eastern Star, White Shrine, Amaranth, Rotary, Red Cross of Constantine, Illinois Aviation Hall of Fame, Knight of York Cross of Honor, Royal Honor of Scotland and Tabela Shrine. Surviving is wife, Arneta Reining; sons, John (Ginger) Reining, and Doral (Michele) Reining; grandchildren, Zachary Reining, Kaleb (Sarah) Reining, Sierra Reining, Morgan (Michael) Jacobs, Madelyn Reining; and great-grandchildren Makenzie Reining, Gabriel Reining. John was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George; sisters, Catherine Holbrook and Eva Schnell; and son, Gregory George. Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday January 14, 2022, at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Rev. Brian Prall and Rev. Eldred George will officiate.
