Joe "Jurl" Earl Adams, 54, was called home Thursday May 18, 2017 at Swedish American Hospital, Rockford, Illinois. Jurl was born on August 4, 1962 in Mississippi. Jurl was a known business man. He attended Freeport High School in Freeport, IL. He opened up several Halfway Houses during his journey in Memphis, TN and Freeport, IL. He also had Thrift stores and was the "KING" of the Joe Burger. Preceding him in death are his mother Vissie Chest; son Joe Earl Adams Jr. "JoJo"; grandmother Louella Lawrence; brother Eddie Chest Jr., and nephews Reginald Pendelton and Nathaniel Allen. He leaves to cherish his memories, father Eddie Chest; two daughters, LaTosha Cantu (Manuel Cantu), LaShawn Adams, both of Memphis, TN; one son, Joseph Anderson (Donyell Anderson) Chicago, IL; 7 brothers Billy Adams Sr., Bobby L. Adams, Eddie Adams, Terry Adams, David Adams, Jerry Adams (Stefanie), Sammy Chest (Anita); 10 sisters Betty Ellis (Edmond), Diann Adams, Mary (Tony) Adams, Shirley Adams, Sandra Chest, Nadine Chest, Wanda Chest, Linda Chest, Glenda Chest, Veola Chest (Mitchell); Grandkids: Amond Chest, Manuel Cantu Jr., Elijah Cantu, KeTriana Adams, LeVertis Crump Jr., Aami Anderson, Aniya Miles, Angelo Miles, Elijah McKinney, Tamia Hill, Amiya Hill; close friend Diane Phillis and two stepdaughters (Erica Pugh, Marnadra Pugh). He also leaves a special nephew Billy Ray Adams Jr.; and host of beloved nieces, nephews, and additional relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday May 26, 2017 at Embury United Methodist Church, Freeport. Elder Deontae Collier Sr. will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service at the church.
