Joan Louise Wubbena

Joan Louise Wubbena, 78, Of Dixon IL, formerly of Forreston, IL passed away Thursday December 16, 2021 at SwedishAmerican UW Health Hospital in Rockford, IL. She was born July 12, 1943 in Dixon, IL to David Miller and Bernice (Schick) Miller. On October 16, 1965 she married Leonard L. Wubbena in Brookville, IL. Leonard passed away November 10, 1993. Joan had many jobs throughout her life. Her employment included working as a Registered Nurse, serving on the Forreston Ambulance Crew, Occupational Health Nurse for Woods in Oregon, IL, Barber-Coleman in Rockford, IL, and KSB Hospital at various sites. She was one of the first female semi-truck drivers, driving for the family businessLens Farm Service. She would drive circles around most other male drivers and was known for getting in and out of tight spots. Joan started making Angel Pillows (Elephant Ears) at Forreston football games, which led to the start of her food van catering at auctions and fairs. Her hobbies included reading, watching movies with her dog, Peanut, and spending time with family and friends.She is survived by her two daughters Angela L. (Bradley) Rusnak of Forreston and Dr. Anita L. Wubbena of Davenport, IA; daughter-in-law Jodi (Warren) Wubbena of Byron, IL; sister Elizabeth Schupbach of Thomson, IL; two brothers Oliver (Margaret) Miller of Girard, IL and Tom (Cindy) Miller of Stillwater, MN; sister-in-law Cindy Miller of Polo, IL; six grandchildren Christopher (Michelle) Scott of Guttenberg, IA, Colton (Jessica) Scott of Bloomington, IL, Taylor Scott of Forreston, IL, Trevor Rusnak of Forreston, IL, Kenna Wubbena of Byron, IL and Kenzi Wubbena of Byron, IL; and one great-grandchild Finn Scott of Guttenberg, IA.Preceding Joan in death is her husband Leonard L. Wubbena, son Kevin L. Wubbena, parents David A. and Bernice G. Miller, brother James Miller, and great-grandson Oliver M. Scott.Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday December 21, 2021 at Forreston Reformed Church with Rev. Lyle Zumdahl officiating. A visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will be in White Oak Cemetery in Forreston, IL.
