Joan E. Marquard, 80, of Freeport, died Monday, July 11, 2016 in her home. Joan was born in Mosinee, Wisconsin on March 24, 1936, the daughter of Marvin and Grace (Doyle) Dupuis. She married Rhody Marquard on July 17, 1965, in Mosinee, Wisconsin. Joan was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Primary Education. She then took post graduate courses at University of Colorado-Boulder, University of Wisconsin-Madison and University of Illinois- DeKalb. Joan taught school for 34 years before retiring in 1994. She received a Teacher of Excellence Award in 1984. Joan was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church where she sang in the choir, American Business Women, Education Groups, PEO, Lady Elks, and American Association of University Women. Since retiring, Joan kept active by volunteering at schools and nursing homes. Joan enjoyed traveling, fishing, golfing, playing bridge and attending Elderhostels with her husband. Surviving are her husband, Rhody Marquard of Freeport; two brothers, Jerome (Marlene) Dupuis and Norbert (Joan) Dupuis both of Mosinee, WI. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and many friends. Joan was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Charmaine Jenks. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday July 14, 2016 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Rev. Timothy Barr will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial has been established in Joan's memory. Burial will take place at St. Paul Catholic Cemetery in Mosinee, Wisconsin at a later date.
