Joan C. Hunziker

Joan C. Hunziker, 83, of Freeport died Wednesday January 16, 2019 at FHN Memorial Hospital. She was born January 10, 1936 in Dixon, IL to Frank and Velma (Kuntzleman) Carr. Her father was a WWII Navy Veteran that served on the USS Columbia and Purple Heart recipient. On December 15, 1956 she married Richard Hunziker in Leaf River, IL. Over the years Joan was employed at Oscar's Drive-In in San Diego, telephone operator at PSA Airlines and ten years in the mercury department at Honeywell. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Freeport. Joan enjoyed gardening, sewing where there was really nothing she could not make, and spending time with friends and family, especially her grandkids. She is survived by her husband Richard of Freeport; three sons Mark (special friend Paul) Hunziker of Freeport, Gary (Kathy) Hunziker of Gilbert, IA and Greg Hunziker of Mesa, AZ; daughter Shelly Morrison of Williamston, SC; two brothers Steve (Sharon) Carr of Metamora, IL and Dennis (Jan) Carr of Yorkville, IL; sister Jackie Stukenberg of Forreston, IL; and 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Joan is preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Carr, brother-in-laws Donald Hunziker and Lamoine Stukenberg, son-in-law Wes Morrison, niece Chrissy and dog Peaches. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday January 21, 2019 at the Chapel of Peace in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family would like a donation be made to the Salvation Army. The family would like to give a special thanks to caregiver Sondra Gentry, Tami La Sala NP, and FHN Hospital.
