Jerry Dennis Wells

Jerry Dennis Wells, 66, of Freeport, died Saturday May 9, 2015 peacefully, in his recliner, at home. Jerry was born on Jan 1, 1949 in Elgin, Illinois, the son of John and Bonnie (Long) Wells. Jerry married Connie Heckman on September 27, 2008, in Freeport. Jerry worked for the Freeport Fire Department until his retirement in 1996. He also worked for the Lena-Winslow School District. He was a graduate of Stockton High School. Jerry enjoyed boating, snowmobiling, following the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, Kentucky Wildcat Basketball, and watching the Kentucky Derby every year. Jerry appreciated spending time and having a beer with all of his friends and family. Surviving are his wife, Connie Wells of Freeport; sons, Jason (Tricia) Builta of Orange, Texas, Jerry "Pork" (Sarah) Wells of Rockford, Josh (Jamie) Wells of Freeport, Shayne (Michelle) Baker of Mesa, Arizona, Dennis Rucker of Freeport and Michael (Charmine) Pearce of Rockford; daughters, Bonnie Huenefeld of Lake Summerset, Brandi (Jeffrey) Zalaznik of Freeport, Marylou Leitzen of Freeport, Andrea (Dan) Carter of Freeport, Rebecca "Becky" (Calvin) Lapp of Texas, and Pamela Rucker of Freeport; sister, Robbin (Tom) King of Elizabeth Town, Kentucky; sister-in-law, Judy Wells of Cache, Oklahoma, and Linda (Dave) Bentley of Kalona, Iowa. Also surviving are 35 grandchildren. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, James and Jack Wells. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday May 16, 2015 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Rev. Randy Nicholas will officiate. Visitation will be Friday 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. also at Burke Tubbs. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Jerry's memory.
